Accessibility

Some children get extra help in their real exams, such as extra time or a reader. The site should work for them here too. This page is an honest account of where it stands, including the parts that are not good enough yet.

What we have done

Every page works without a mouse. You can reach every question, answer and download using the keyboard, and a "skip" link jumps past the menu.
Headings are in order on every page, so a screen reader can move through a page section by section. Each practice question is its own labelled section.
Every picture and diagram has a text description, or is marked as decoration so a screen reader skips it.
Nothing relies on colour alone. A right or wrong answer is shown in words as well as in colour.
The site fits a phone screen without scrolling sideways, and still works when you zoom in.
Timed work can be made easier. Mock papers offer 25% extra time or no timer, and the times tables check lets you give more than six seconds or turn the timer off, as access arrangements allow in real tests.
Nothing plays, flashes or moves on its own.

Where it falls short

It is more useful to be specific than to claim the site meets every standard:

Non-verbal reasoning needs sight. These questions ask a child to compare shapes, and describing the shapes in words would give the answer away. This part of the site cannot be used without sight, and we do not have a good answer for it yet.
The site has not been tested by disabled users. Everything above comes from our own checks and automatic testing tools, which is not the same thing.

If something does not work for you or your child, please email hello@thecopybook.co.uk and tell us which page it was and what happened. We fix accessibility problems first, before adding anything new.
