Accessibility

What we have done

• Every page works without a mouse. You can reach every question, every answer and every download by keyboard alone, and there is a skip link to jump past the navigation.
• Headings run in order on every page, so a screen reader can be used to move through a page by structure. Each practice question is its own labelled section.
• Every image and every figure carries a text alternative or is marked as decorative.
• Nothing is conveyed by colour alone. A right or wrong answer is marked in words as well as in colour.
• The site works at phone width without side-scrolling, and it reflows when you zoom.
• No page carries autoplaying media, flashing content or anything that moves on its own.

Where it falls short

Being specific is more useful than claiming compliance:

• Non-verbal reasoning is visual. Those questions ask a child to compare shapes, and the shapes have no meaningful text alternative — describing them would give the answer away. That part of the site is not usable without sight, and we do not have a good answer for it yet.
• Mock papers are timed. There is no way to extend the time or turn the timer off, which real access arrangements would allow. Learn mode is untimed, so it is the better route in the meantime.
• We have not had the site tested by disabled users. Everything above comes from our own checking and automated tools, which is not the same thing.

If something here does not work for you or your child, please write to hello@thecopybook.co.uk and say what page it was and what happened. Accessibility problems go to the front of the queue, ahead of new content.
