Who is responsible

The Copybook is run by Richmond Tutoring Company Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 16871015, registered office 37 Talma Gardens, Twickenham, England, TW2 7RB. The company is responsible for the small amount of information described on this page (in data protection terms, the "controller"). Contact: hello@thecopybook.co.uk.

What we do not collect

• No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for. We never ask for your child's name, age, school, year group or email address, and there is no password to forget.
• No saved answers or scores. When your child does a set of questions or a mock paper, their answers stay in the page while they work. Close the tab and they are gone, unless you choose to keep a record on your own device (below). They are never saved to our database.
• An optional record, on your own device. If you choose to, the site keeps a list of the sets and mock papers your child has finished, with their scores, in your browser's own storage. It is off until you switch it on, it never leaves your device, and we cannot see it. You can clear it on the record page at any time.
• No cookies. Nothing on this site sets a cookie: not for statistics, not for settings, not for anything. That is why there is no cookie banner.
• No adverts and no advertising trackers on any page, and none planned on the pages children use.

What we do count

We keep simple, anonymous totals: how many times a topic was started, how many mock papers were finished, how many times a paper was downloaded. They tell us which topics to write next.

Each count records that something happened, and nothing else. It is not linked to a person, a visit or a device, and it cannot be traced back to anyone. Counts never include scores: we know a mock paper was finished, but not how anyone did.

What happens automatically

The site runs on Cloudflare. Like any website, Cloudflare has to handle the technical details of each visit (your IP address, your browser type, the page you asked for) to show you the page, keep the site running and block attacks. We do not use this to build a picture of anyone, and we do not combine it with anything else.

Files such as the past papers are stored with Cloudflare too. Downloading one involves the same technical handling and nothing more.

Cloudflare also adds a small visitor-counting script, static.cloudflareinsights.com, to every page. It is the only outside service the site calls. It counts page views and how fast pages load. It sets no cookies, saves nothing on your device, and does not follow anyone from site to site. We would rather the site called no outside service at all, and we are working towards that.

Other websites we link to

Some links take you to other websites, such as GOV.UK, the National Archives, and council or school admissions pages. Once you are there, their privacy policy applies, not ours. We cannot see or control what they do.

Children

The practice pages are made for children to use, usually with an adult nearby. Because we hold no personal information about any child, there is nothing to build a profile from, nothing to share and nothing to delete. This is how the site is built, not just a promise: the safest way to protect children's information is never to collect it.

Your rights

UK data protection law lets you see, correct or delete personal information held about you. Apart from the email list below, we hold none, so there is usually nothing to act on. If you think we hold something about you, email us and we will check and tell you what we find.

The parent email list

There is an optional sign-up on the guide and paper pages, which are the parent side of the site. It never appears on a page a child uses. If you sign up, this is everything that happens:

• We save your email address, the page you signed up on, and the date. Nothing else. We do not ask for your name.
• You confirm it first. We send a confirmation email, and your address is only added once you click the link in it. If you never click, it is never added. This also means nobody else can sign you up.
• What you get: an email when a new area guide or a new year of papers goes up. A few times a year at most. No adverts, and we never sell, share or rent the list.
• Leaving deletes you completely. Every email has an unsubscribe link. Clicking it deletes your record, rather than just marking it, so nothing is kept.

We hold your address because you agreed to it, and your confirmation click is the record of that agreement. The sign-up form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to check that a real person is signing up. It sets no cookie.

Messages you send us

The "Message us" button on every page sends us your message. This is what happens to it:

• We save the message, what it is about, the page you sent it from, and the date. We also email it to our own inbox so we see it.
• Your email address only if you give it, and only to reply to you. It is never added to the email list. The box on the practice pages children use doesn't ask for one.
• No IP address or device details are kept. The box uses Cloudflare Turnstile to stop robots, as the sign-up form does.
• We delete messages within 12 months, sooner if you ask. Please don't include a child's name or school.

If this changes

If the site ever collects anything more, this page will say so before it happens. It will always be your choice, and it will never be on the pages children use.
